Here are a few myths about bi+ people that you may have seen before, or even encountered!
"Just pick a side."
Being told to "pick a side" is plainly biphobic. Being bi+ is about accepting and taking pride in your identity, just "picking a side" ignores the reality of being bi+, and ignores that bi+ people exist. Do not feel like you have to "pick a side," love however you feel is right to you!
"You're not bi if you haven't been in a relationship with your same gender."
Being bi+ is about knowing internally who you're attracted to, and does not hinge on who you are with, or who you have been with. Even if you have not been with anyone, that does not mean you're not allowed to recognize your bi+-ness!
"Bi people have more privilege because they're 'half-straight.'"
Bi+ people are not half-straight. Some people are only a little bit attracted to other genders, some are mostly attracted to other genders. Bisexuality+ is a spectrum, not a definitive 50/50 split of attraction. You can be bi+ and only be 3% attracted to other genders! It's all a personal journey.
"Bi people are transphobic."
Being bi+ does not mean that you are not attracted to trans people or non-binary individuals! Bisexual does not mean that you're only attracted to cis men and women, but rather that you're attracted to two or more genders!
